Psalm 18

Read:
Psalm 18:45-46

If we are indeed beginning to enter a new chapter in this pandemic story, many of us could sing with King David, “The Lord lives! Praise be to my rock! Exalted be God my savior!”

In his sovereign lovingkindness, the Lord (hopefully) has gotten our attention and our relationship with him has entered a new chapter, a new normal. I heard someone say lately that maybe the question is starting to change from “will we make it through these days?” to “what will these days make us?”

In Psalm 18:45, the verse leading right into David’s shout of praise above, he writes, “they come trembling from their strongholds.” This helps me reflect on some of the pre-pandemic strongholds I have had in my life. Some of these strongholds or pillars or safety bunkers often seem like good things – my plans, my family, my finances, my job, my control over my weekly schedule…but I’m realizing I can make idols out of them, and/or be presumptuous that they will ways be there exactly as I want them.

Let’s not waste this moment, and let’s allow him to finish what he’s been wanting to do in our lives before we start to think about moving on. Before we fully open up our country, let’s fully open up our lives.

Question:
How has the Lord been using this time to make something new out of you?
